4 Bedding Myths Debunked

Over time, the world has developed a variety of misconceived perceptions regarding bedding. Here at Skylark+Owl, we want you to know the truth about not only our comforts but all linens on the market! Keep reading to find out the truth about four of the most common bedding myths.
Myth #1 - The Higher the Thread Count the Better the Bedding

This is probably the number one biggest told and believed myth about bedding. For years and years, we have heard it, when in reality, it’s just not true. Thread count is the number of vertical and horizontal threads within a square inch of a sheet. If the thread count is too high, there will be too many threads within each square inch of fabric, creating a low quality textile. Unlike some companies, here at Skylark+Owl, we choose to be honest about our manufacturing processes. Some manufacturers distort this number by not just counting the threads, but counting the individual plies that make up a thread. This does not improve the quality of your sheets!

With sheets, the maximum thread count within a square inch of a sheet is around 400-500. Our Refined Collection is a buttery smooth, 400 thread count, while our Essential Collection is woven into a breathable 300 thread count.

Myth #2 - All Sheets are Held to the Same Standard

Many people treat all linen equality when it is not. All Skylark+Owl bedding products are Oeko-Tex® Certified. Oeko-Tex® is an international association focused on textile safety and sustainable production. Oeko-Tex® tests for known harmful substances and chemicals as well as for acidity and colour fastness. This organization does independent testing at every level of production, and all components of the product must comply with stringent Oeko-Tex® standards to achieve certification.

Myth #3 - It’s Impossible to Have a Cool Sleep in the Summer

In certain situations, this myth can be very true. We have all had those hot summer nights, tossing and turning, but if you have the right bedding you can dream all night no matter the weather.

To help with the temperature, it is important to pick a moisture wicking fabric and strip back on the layers. So get rid of that top sheet and grab our Essential Collection Percale Duvet Cover and Synthetic Down Duvet Blanket for the perfect combination to combat the heat. The duvet cover is crisp and cool to the touch, with a percale weave for the perfect amount of breathability and the insert is a great lightweight alternative to our Duvet Insert. You’ll be set to turn this fact into a myth!

Myth #4 -  A Pillow Cannot Change the Way You Sleep

When it comes to getting a good night’s sleep, some people believe that a pillow can’t change the way you sleep (many Skylark+Owl pillow customers will strongly disagree, see our reviews). In fact, your pillow can make all the biggest difference between a peaceful sleep and a night spent tossing and turning. The goal is to find the right pillow that will keep your posture properly aligned. Your pillow should hold its shape when you fidget throughout your sleep because there’s nothing worse than waking up and having to re-fluff in the middle of the night.

Our best-selling Refined Pillow will have you sleeping sound all night long, but if you’re still not sold, check out our blog post to help you find the perfect pillow!

Now that you know the truth about four of the most notorious bedding myths you can make an educated decision on your own bedding. Sleep well!
